How To Get Rid of Self-Doubt




Do you find yourself or notice that someone else not able to accept compliments from others and constantly seeking reassurance? Notice the development of low self-esteem, or feel like you're never good enough? Is there the constant asking of 'what if it doesn't work out?'. If you didn't know, these are and can be signs of self-doubt. So many things can contribute to the cause of self-doubt. Many people have grown up in an environment that wasn't conducive for the development of self-confidence. There may have been negative experiences or a form of attachment style issues like insecureness.


Anxiety and overthinking have been known to cause self-doubt as well. A person who is a perfectionist and always overthinking can find themselves often in a state of doubt. Doubt can cause one to not trust their own decisions made in certain situations. One may also find themself afraid of speaking up because of the simple thought that they're not good enough. I've found myself traveling such a valley on several occasions in life!




But what can one do to stop this act of self-doubt? Try asking 'what if it DOES work out?'. Understanding that what's going to happen is going to happen. Some things are just out of our control. Failing is perfectly normal. It happens to everyone! Weigh up the options, and then do what you think is right. Practice self-compassion and positive affirmations. Affirmations can be more powerful than you think. Think back on your past achievements, and remind yourself that you are capable. Don't compare yourself to others, and run your own race.


Spend time with supportive people. Journal your thoughts. Remember to calm your inner critic. This will help you be skeptical of negative thoughts. If you think your self-doubt is serious enough, don't be afraid to seek professional help. Self-doubt can lead to some mental illnesses such as OCD(Obsessive - Compulsive Disorder).


I hope these tips help! One thing I like to do is create mantras, put them to music, and then listen to it before I have to do task or participate in something that I think doubt will get in the way of. My personal "hype" song! lol
